About The Book
GUN POINTS
Understanding The Past To Secure The Future
This book takes a fresh approach to understanding and addressing gun violence, especially in African American communities in Philadelphia. The author argues that the problem isn’t just about individual actions but is deeply connected to cultural displacement caused by historical traumas like colonization and systemic racism. Using an Afrocentric perspective, Davis highlights the need to restore cultural identity as a key step in healing and reducing violence. He challenges the common belief that gun violence is an inherent trait among Black individuals and instead calls for a deeper look at the social, economic, and psychological factors involved. Drawing on influential Afrocentric scholars, he suggests that reconnecting with African values can bring about cultural transformation, strengthen community bonds, and ultimately reduce violence by developing a renewed sense of identity and belonging.
